ROOM R
“This room always makes me nostalgic. It’s not like I’ve stayed here before—I mean, maybe in a past life. But every time I turn at the top of the steps, like that, the nostalgia hits me hard, deep in the cerebellum.
Room R will do that to you. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been to San Diego a billion times before, or never. I like to think it’s the pull of my grandpa (we called him Popo) from the photograph in the far corner. Head of the room he’s never been in. Leo on a white horse. Both of our grandfathers were epic grandfathers, worthy of stories as good as the ones they told us. This Room, then, is our tribute to them. Big, full of fantastic tales, and still perfectly familiar.”

The Quirks
There are 2 sets of stairs up to the bedroom and living area
Because of the large street-facing windows, you may experience light and noise at night; we wouldn’t recommend this room for light sleepers
“The Rules”
Check-in: 3pm, Check-out: 11am
The Dutra does not allow smoking or pets in rooms and on the patios. (Though Pet Rocks are permitted.) If you choose to break “the rules,” we charge an extra cleaning fee. One necessary point about our patios: all are private, except for the common lawn on the fourth floor. It’s the one with the tiny tub, you can’t miss it.
We love parties, but for groups more than 2 or late nights (after 9pm), we ask that you check with us before you arrive. Our walls are a little thin, so your tap dancing, loud seances, bongos, and even your lively conversation can carry. The same goes for photo or film shoots. Please note that, in both cases, you may be charged an extra location or event fee.
Every stay at The Dutra comes with instant new neighbors. “The rules” are just in place to make sure everyone has the best stay. We can’t wait to have you visit!
